This introductory tour of Chile and Argentina takes in the most spectacular sights of the two countries. Starting in Santiago the tour visits the colourful port of Valparaiso before heading south to Patagonia to see mountain peaks, glaciers and wildlife. Finish with a scenic journey past the volcanoes of the Lake District and a few days in the elegant city of Buenos Aires.

 Day 1: Fly to Santiago via Madrid

Overnight flight from London (regional connections available) to Santiago with British Airways. (N)

 Day 2: Santiago

Arrive and transfer to the Solace Hotel for 3 nights. In the afternoon, visit the Costanera viewing platform for views of the city and the Andes. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner. (D)

 Day 3: Santiago

This morning explore the central market, cathedral and main square of Santiago in a tour of the city. Afternoon at leisure or optional visit to the Pre-Columbian Museum. (B)

 Day 4: Valparaiso

Travel to the coast for a full-day tour of the historic and colourful city of Valparaiso. There will be a chance to visit the house of Chile's celebrated poet, Pablo Neruda. (B)

 Day 5: Fly to Punta Arenas * Puerto Natales

Fly to Punta Arenas and transfer to the charming town of Puerto Natales, surrounded by the glassy waters of Last Hope Sound and the mountain peaks of Patagonia. Stay overnight at the Hotel Martin Gusinde. (B)

 Day 6: Torres del Paine

Full day tour taking in the dramatic scenery of granite peaks, emerald lakes, waterfalls and ancient lenga forests with several short hikes including Laguna Azul, which has one of the best views of the Torres peaks. Stay at the Hotel Rio Serrano for 2 nights with views of the Paine Massif. (B, L)

 Day 7: Torres del Paine

In the morning there will a boat excursion on Grey Lake to see the glacier. (B)

 Day 8: Punta Arenas

Drive back to Punta Arenas, a journey of approximately 5 hours with a stop at a traditional Patagonian estancia for a typical quincho barbecue. In the afternoon take a short tour of Punta Arenas. Overnight at Cabo de Hornos Hotel. (B, L)

 Day 9: Fly to Puerto Montt * Puerto Varas.

Fly to Puerto Montt and transfer to the town of Puerto Varas, surrounded by perfectly conical volcanoes and a beautiful lake. Overnight at the Solace Puerto Varas Hotel (B)

 Day 10: Lake crossing to Bariloche

Full-day shared journey by coach and boat across the Lake District to Argentina. Travel through lakes and mountains, past forests and waterfalls to the picturesque town of Bariloche on the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi. Transfer to Hotel Edelweiss for 1 night. (B)

 Day 11: Buenos Aires

Fly to Buenos Aires and transfer to the Intersur Hotel for 3 nights. Afternoon at leisure to explore the streets of Buenos Aires on foot. (B)

 Day 12: Buenos Aires

Morning tour of Buenos Aires discovering its blend of European cultures, grand architecture and fascinating history. (B)

 Day 13: Buenos Aires

 Day at leisure or take an optional full-day trip to an estancia in the Pampas countryside. In the evening, enjoy Argentinian cuisine during a farewell dinner. (B, D)

 Day 14: Fly to London

Fly overnight to London with British Airways. (B)

Arrive in London. (N)
