 Day 1 Sorrento

Buongiorno! Welcome to Italy. You can arrive at any time as there are no activities planned until a group meeting this evening at 6pm. Home to artistic treasures, renowned sights, celebrated fashion and some of the tastiest food on the planet, Italy will surely impress. From Rome's ancient streets to the romantic canals of Venice, be seduced by a slice of La Dolce Vita. People have been coming to the peninsula and islands of the Sorrento region for at least 2,000 years, and it's easy to see why. There are many options in this small seaside town with its fine piazzas, maze of old streets, sidewalk cafes and glamorous shops. The area is also famous for its lemon and orange groves - try some limoncello, a popular lemon liqueur, while watching the sun go down over the ocean.

 Day 2 Sorrento

This morning you'll take a short train ride (50mins) to Ercolano and visit the ancient site of Herculaneum. Often overlooked in favour of its more famous neighbour Pompeii, it too was destroyed in a river of mud from the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. Excavations first started in the 18th century, and subsequently uncovered bronze and silver artefacts, marble statues and many mosaics as well as a superbly preserved network of streets and houses. A guided tour (approx 2 hours) will bring the site to life, revealing everyday life as it was almost 2000 years ago. After you've walked the streets of this incredible town, return to your hotel by train. This evening you'll get a hands-on lesson in the thing most important to Italians ' food! Enjoy a pizza cooking demonstration and delectable dinner.

 Day 3 Sorrento

This morning we go to the port and head across the glorious Bay of Naples to Capri. A hydrofoil will take you across to the island (approx: 30 minutes) that was once home to the magnificent holiday palaces of the Roman emperors. Capri's dramatic rocky coastline is pierced by natural grottoes, while in the interior, narrow roads wind through fragrant citrus groves, past villages of little white houses with flower-filled gardens, and manicured towns that offer swanky hotels and chic cafes. Though its unmatched setting and natural beauty means it's popular with visitors, there are still many hidden corners and treasures to explore. After the exploration of the Marina and the little town of Capri, take a bus up to Anacapri and enjoy the best views of the island and bay from the top of Monte Solaro, reachable by cable car. Around mid-afternoon, take the 1 hour long ferry back to Sorrento. You'll have a free evening tonight.

 Day 4 Sorrento

We will be picked up by our private transfer and head to Pompeii (approximately 40 minutes). Until the 26th August, 79 AD, Pompeii was a thriving Roman trading centre, where ordinary people went about their everyday business, but it was frozen in time when Mount Vesuvius erupted, killing 2,000 people and covering their homes in a layer of ash. Now you can take a unique look back into the lives of ancient Romans and discover how they lived, worked and interacted 2,000 years ago. The finely preserved ruins include villas, temples, theatres and bustling markets. Walk along the chariot-marked streets, visit the magnificent amphitheatre, and drop by the 'Villa of Mysteries'. Then, take a short ride up the mighty Mt Vesuvius, maybe the most famous volcano in the world! Climb for around 45 minutes to the summit for staggering views over the Bay of Naples, then walk another 30 minutes on a trail across the cinders for views down into the crater. Although Mt Vesuvius is still considered to be an active volcano, the last eruption was in 1944 and there's no sign of volcanic activity . See first-hand the awesome power of the volcano that engulfed the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. It is then about 30 minutes walk back down again. We will re-board our van and head to Sorrento where there is a surprise visit in store. Note: the road to Mt Vesuvius is very windy, please take this into consideration if you or your child suffers from motion/car sickness.

 Day 5 Minori

Today pack your bags and transfer to your next destination with private transfer. A stunning drive with views of the mountains takes us to our stop at a local Agriturismo to taste their local products and learn about the business of food. We will spent some time here (1hr and half) before heading onto Minori. Once in Minori, you will have free time to explore this small little village or enjoy some beach time. The beach here is like many European beaches; quite crowded with lots of people, umbrellas and loungers, which are available rent. It's a great place to people watch.

 Day 6 Minori

Today we head out on kayaks (or paddleboats dependent of the ages and abilities of the children) and do a tour to one of the local waterfalls. We will spend 1 to 1.5 hours on the water depending on the speed of the paddlers (you!) and the weather. This activity is weather permitting. This afternoon you will have a chance to unwind , relax and share tales of this morning's adventure.

 Day 7 Minori

Today is free to enjoy Minori. Explore the Roman villa, walk along the coast or just relax and unwind in this delightful village. You could walk to the quaint town of Ravello which we highly recommended. It is approximately 1300 stairs each way but lovely town to visit. Or you could do the Walk of the Lemons which runs from Maiori to Minori. It's a beautiful 1 hour walk with amazing views as you climb up into the lemon groves.

 Day 8 Minori

Wave goodbye to Italy and your new friends. Those who have booked transfers will be taken to the airport to board their onward plane.
